This is the legal process for ending a civil partnership. The process is similar to divorce and now allows for “no-fault” applications.
How does the process work?
- Application: Either partner can apply after being in the partnership for at least one year.
- Acknowledgement: The other partner is notified and must confirm receipt.
- Conditional Order: After a 20-week period, you can apply for a conditional order.
- Final Order: Six weeks later, you can apply for the final order, which legally ends the partnership.
